The same logic appeares in the Science as a Vocation article. As
workchanged its nature with the Protestant ethic, it became a calling.
Soscientific activity was like a calling, it was not a job, not an occupation, not a career, but after the capitalism affected the whole areas of life, it changed. Weber, asks questions like “Why people do science? Whats the purpose?” Science is like an art, it has meaning only when it is done with passion. But, in a bureaucratic society, the universities are working like factories, which just produce information. Teacher, just transfers information to the students, it is like a copy-paste document, small copies of the same document.Students
become mimetic.
"As society shifted to rational way of thinking, knowledge become on of main elements of social relations. Knowledge become a power, scientific
knowledge as an authority. The product of knowledge become bigger, it covers whole aspects of life. It is producing new social relations, alters the previous social relations. Also, the legitimate knowledge is related with legitimate power, or legitimate authority. And as
a part of capitalist society knowledge is a source of capital. Here we can also mention about, a new phase after industrialization is transmission to information society, or post-industrial society.
Companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple and Yandex who are selling not real, physical commodity but a digitalized products became the most powerful holders of capital.
